FAT TRANSFER
Fat transfer has been around for a long time, but until recently it was not performed on a regular basis nor was it considered to be very lasting or beneficial. After
extensive research was conducted by several interested physicians, it was
determined that the way fat was being taken, processed, and injected made a
great difference in its longevity and its success. Now,
it is believed that fat should be injected in small increments through a series
of injections (usually around 3), because the blood supply can only accommodate
small amounts at a time and only so much fat can survive. The fat is
usually harvested from an individual, processed, and stored with the person’s
name and social security number in a special freezer for later use. Post
injections are performed as a minor office procedure, using a local anesthetic
or numbing agent on the area or areas involved. There is little discomfort
or downtime, but it can cause temporary swelling and possibly some bruising. Fat
can be used to fill in deep creases, hollow areas, indentions, and minor
abnormalities in the body or face. Although it is often used to plump up
lips, the fat does not seem to last as well in such an area of motion. Also,
many people lose some facial fat as they age, which causes them to appear older.
Therefore, many cosmetic doctors today, including Dr. Miles, feel that adding
fat back to the aging face brings back a more youthful appearance. Visit our
