Surgeons Voice Strong Opposition to Cosmetic Tax

Friday, November 20th, 2009 by newseditor

Cosmetic and plastic surgeons are voicing opposition to a recently added “elective cosmetic medical tax” that was unveiled Wednesday within the latest healthcare reform bill.

”SEC. 5000B. IMPOSITION OF TAX ON ELECTIVE COSMETIC MEDICAL PROCEDURES.
”(a) IN GENERAL.-There is hereby imposed on any cosmetic surgery and medical procedure a tax equal to 5 percent of the amount paid for such procedure (determined without regard to this section), whether paid by insurance or otherwise.
”(b) COSMETIC SURGERY AND MEDICAL PROCEDURE.-For purposes of this section, the term ‘cosmetic surgery and medical procedure’ means any cosmetic surgery (as defined in section 213(d)(9)(B)) or other similar procedure which-
”(1) is performed by a licensed medical professional, and
”(2) is not necessary to ameliorate a deformity arising from, or directly related to, a congenital abnormality, a personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or disfiguring disease.

The most common objection being cited is that the tax unfairly targets services that are purchased predominantly by women. Dr. Jennifer Walden appeared on Fox news last night to discuss the problems with this proposed tax.

2 Ways You Can Maximize Your Surgery Consultation

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 by newseditor

consult DallasWhile the cosmetic surgery consultation is no reason to worry, preparing yourself for it and adopting the right attitude can make the experience more productive.  Follow these 2 general rules to get a better consultation and make the most of your visit to our Dallas cosmetic surgery office.

1. Prepare Yourself

The consultation is a great time to clarify specific information about treatments and procedures we offer.  Our website doesn’t answer every question and people have different priorities and concerns.  Just bring a list of questions or topics that you think are important or still unclear.

2. Be honest and open

Honesty and good communication are important from your first phone call all the way through the surgery.  Share all pertinent information with Dr. Frenzel. There’s no reason to hide your medical history, past procedures, goals or motivations for surgery.

A consultation doesn’t require any commitment. You can take as much time as you need to consider your options afterward.

DIY Cosmetic Treatments – A Recession Trend?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 by admin

botox-DallasThe folks at ABC News and 20/20 are wondering about cosmetic treatments like Restylane, Juvederm, and Botox; are they being obtained online and then self administered?

We sincerely hope nobody in Texas (or elsewhere) has attempted this kind of thing.  Injectable treatments might seem easy and quite comfortable in our office, but attempting to perform them yourself is very unwise.  When the person administering treatment doesn’t know proper injection techniques, the risks are much greater and the cosmetic result will probably be very poor.

You’ll be in much better hands if you see a qualified cosmetic or plastic surgeon for your injectable treatments.

Body Slimming With Advanced Liposuction Techniques

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 by admin

dallas liposuction surgeonDo you have areas of your body – the thighs, flanks, and stomach perhaps – that just don’t seem to slim down no matter what you do?  Getting the body you want may require more than a basic workout routine or healthy diet; it may also require some smart technology and a good surgeon.  The latest techniques in liposuction allow for smarter, more precise body contouring, so you can lose the saddlebags and get closer to your ideal body shape.

People who undergo liposuction aren’t necessarily overweight – many are in good physical condition.  The problem is, a shift occurs at a certain age that affects weight fluctuations, and it leaves you with stubborn areas of fat (people in the industry call them “fat deposits” or “pockets”) that don’t respond to conventional body slimming methods.

There are several relatively new liposuction techniques being performed that are making the procedure easier and more effective than ever.

  • VASER Ultrasonic liposuction emulsifies fat for precise, easy removal.
  • Laser liposuction ‘melts’ fat before suctioning it out.
  • Tumescent liposuction involves the injection of lidocaine and adrenaline into the tissue.

Some of the newer platforms may not be as effective as advertised, nor as effective as traditional liposuction.  Contact us to learn more about what liposuction techniques and devices we employ in our Dallas surgery practice.

A Growing Interest in Cosmetics…For Men.

Monday, November 2nd, 2009 by admin

According to our local Dallas NBC news affiliate, more men are seeking plastic surgery because they need to compete longer in the workforce.

It’s true that some cosmetic surgeries are particularly well-suited for men, and some procedures such as Botox just make sense regardless of gender.  In the past, the most popular cosmetic surgeries for men were male breast reduction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and hair transplants.  If there truly is a growing acceptance of male cosmetic surgery taking place, we might see that list grow to a certain extent.

The most likely area to gain popularity with men will be in skin renewal treatments.  From experience I can tell you that the majority of males don’t possess a great deal of knowledge about caring for their skin and they often neglect it.

At a recent cosmetic surgery trade show, yours truly (copywriter extraordinaire) along with our accountant Angie underwent a skin analysis using the Image Pro II Skin Analysis system.  While Angie’s skin came out clear and clean, my neglected male skin looked like a battlefield of sun damage and other imperfections.  That experience prompted me to investigate different skin care products and treatments, and I wouldn’t be surprised if other men out there have the same concerns.
